Baby Imogen In-Home Session {Bellingham Baby Photos}

I love, love, love it when clients book me for maternity, birth and newborn photos. To me, it feels like I am able to complete the story. It feels like the experience comes full circle for me.

As I was editing Katy’s birth photos I realized that a natural pose they had struck just before she went back for her c-section, was nearly identical to one I took at their maternity session. When I showed Katy the two photos side by side, she agreed that we needed to recreate it at her newborn session.

Beautiful maternity, birth and newborn photos by Renee Bergeron of Little Earthling Photography. Bellingham baby photos.

I just love the continuity of these three photos together.

I have hands down, the best job in the world. I get to witness not just babies, but families, being born. I get to travel along with couples as their families grow and expand. I get to capture so many special moments in their journey. Sometimes you don’t see the significance of a photo until after the fact…like when you see these three images grouped together.

I loved spending time with Katy and Bob…and am looking forward to many more sessions with their family in the future. Little Imogen's parents absolutely adore her! Bellingham baby photos. Should I Hire a Birth Photographer for my C-Section? {Imogen’s Birth}

Should I Hire a Birth Photographer for my C-Section?

I have been photographing births since 2010 and sometimes I have clients wonder if they should hire a birth photographer if they are having a c-section. As a birth photographer, I am there to document your baby’s birth, no matter how the story unfolds. I have documented home births, birth center births, natural births, births with spinals, epidurals, VBACs, birth with forceps, births with vacuums and, of course, c-sections! No matter what happens, this is your baby’s birth story.

Now let me share with you about Katy.

Katy contacted me very early in her pregnancy. She and her husband were planning a natural birth at the birth center but placenta previa changed everything. When Katy called to tell me she was going to have to schedule a c-section I assured here that I would still document her baby’s arrival. Plans, or no plans, this was her baby’s story. We had a fantastic maternity session a few weeks before her scheduled c-section and kept in close contact about her upcoming birth plans.

On the morning of their baby’s birth, I met Katy and Bob at the hospital bright and early (actually it was dark; it was 5:30 am) and was able to capture their baby’s story from start to finish. While I wasn’t allowed in the OR, I was still able to capture their baby’s birthday in full.

During the actual surgery, I took a coffee break and waited in the waiting room until Katy and Bob were settled back in their room. Then I returned to capture Imogen’s first hours.

So to answer the original question, “Should I Hire a Birth Photographer for my C-Section?” my answer is a hearty, “yes!”

Moms often find they don’t remember the events of the day clearly due to surgery and pain meds. If you end up having a c-section, even if it wasn’t what you hoped for, it is your baby’s birth story.

Ailish’s Birth {Mt Vernon Birth Photographer}

I photographed the birth of Pamela’s first daughter, back in 2015. I love it when repeat clients call and book another birth. Not only is re-hiring me an incredible honor but I love getting to know the families better.

Pamela’s first birth was long. Like all day and push for five hours long. Her baby was posterior and it was a massive task to push her out. She dilated quickly the first time around I had a feeling her second birth would go fast.Mt Vernon Birth Photographer, Renee Bergeron, captures Alilish's beautiful birth center birth.

Pamela did a great job of keeping me posted on her progress. The night before her baby’s birth she called me at midnight to let me know her water had broken. I love it when I have a bit of advanced notice, especially in this case since Pamela was giving birth at a birth center 45 minutes from my home.

I hopped out of bed, double checked my bag, and fell asleep expecting to be awakened at any moment. Just before six am Pamela called again, this time to let me know contractions had started. At 7:30 am I got the this is it call and I headed out immediately.

Pamela was obviously in active labor when I arrived. She was focused 100% on her labor experience.

Sweet little Ailish was born thirty minutes after I arrived. She needed a little bit of help to get breathing but soon pinked up and cried.

Once Ailish was settled in, Konrad left to pick up his older daughter.

As it turns out, little Ailish wasn’t so little. Nine-and-a-half pounds. Wow!

A Maternity Session in the Woods: Bellingham Maternity Photographer

Bellingham Maternity Photographer: A Maternity Session in the Woods

Katy booked me early on in her pregnancy and wanted maternity, birth and newborn photos. We chatted over coffee about what photos were most meaningful to her. Now, just a month away from her due date, we finally got to meet up for her maternity photos. I suggested a beautiful spot in the woods…Katy and Bob agreed but also wanted some water in their images to reflect the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

I got so excited when I saw the beautiful dress and flower crown Katy chose for her session. It was absolutely perfect. The long, flowing dress in magenta contrasted with the green of the woods. The flowers in her hair matched the location perfectly.

Katy herself was glowing and vibrant.  A beautiful maternity session in the woods by Bellingham maternity photographer, Renee Bergeron of Little Earthling Photography. A beautiful maternity session in the woods by Bellingham maternity photographer, Renee Bergeron of Little Earthling Photography.

I had so much fun at this session. Katy and her husband both have a great sense of humor and we laughed through much of the session. After we finished up in the woods Katy braved a trek down a local hiking trail so we could get some images in front of Lake Whatcom.

I think we can all agree it was worth the effort.
