I received a text from Quincey in the middle of the night, five weeks before her due date.
I had a lull between birth clients in February. My December and January clients had given birth. I had two births booked for March, but none for February. As much as I love being a birth photographer, the on-call nights can be tough, so I always relish the small breaks between clients.
Quincey’s text came as surprise. She wasn’t even that close to her due date! It turns out, her little boy was in a big hurry to arrive. Because he was so early Quincey’s planned birth center birth turned into a hospital birth. Nick and Quincey made an amazing team. They were so in touch and connected to each other.
Quincey was experience a lot of pain during her labor, including severe pain in her side. She labored with amazing strength and courage!
Because Harlan was so early, he had to be taken directly to the warmer.
Quincey had just a few precious moments with Harlan before he was taken to the nursery. He needed a little bit of support and spent a couple of weeks in the hospital.
Luckily, I was able to go back and capture images of Harlan in his home once he was released from the hospital. I will share those photos soon.
Congratulations Quincey and Nick! Harlan is a beautiful baby.
